Top 6 Factors that determine how often you should work out with a trainer.
Everyone has a different training and fitness goals, before you decide how often you workout with a personal trainer you first need to look at these top 6 factors.
Factor 1: Health & Fitness Goals
Your personal trainer will assess your fitness level and any muscle imbalances and help you set reasonable, realistic fitness goals. You may have already tried exercising by yourself and did not get the results you were hoping for and your trainer can help you create the right plan.
Everyone is different, only you and your trainer can decide how often you need 1 on 1 coaching to meet your desired goal.
Factor 2: Current Fitness Levels
Your current level of physical fitness, past injuries and any muscle imbalances also determine how often you should work out with a personal trainer. If you recently started exercising, you may need to take it slowly at first and a good trainer will suggest having your sessions spread out across the week.
Making sure your sessions are equally spaced throughout the week gives your muscles a chance to repair and your body to rest.
Factor 3: Training Experience / Training Age
Training experience which is also known as your training age is a critical part of planning a client training program.
Your training age is the cumulative amount of time you’ve spent training in the past, whether in a gym or playing sports. It’s also important to remember that your lifestyle and general training background impacts your training age and what you’re current fitness level is.
Personal training workouts can range from general to specific. And within those same workouts, there can be activities that are simple or complex, and the best trainers will know which exercises are right for you.
Training experience and education of your trainer is also extremely important when investing in a coach, and the fitness industry is full of trainers with little training experience or knowledge, so do your research.
Factor 4: Budget
Personal training fees are based on a trainer’s education, reputation, and experience, it’s important to take the cost into consideration, and finding an experienced coach is worth the money.
So is one PT session a week enough? If you can’t afford to see your trainer more than once a week, joining in with group personal training classes is the best way to work with experienced trainers but still work on your individual goals in your 1 on 1 appointments.
The top personal trainers rates are between $70.00 and $120.00 per appointment but group training classes can be from $45 per week.
Factor 5: Availability & Commitment
Making your health a priority and committing to your workout plan is also a determining factor in how often you should be with your trainer. When booking your sessions in advance you are making a commitment to your trainer and it help you build a regular training routine and habit.
Just trying to haphazardly fit it in where you can probably won’t work, since it’s already a lower priority than what you already have planned and work and family commitments can make it tricky to fit in exercise.
Consistency with workouts is always more necessary than your training frequency. Maintaining your exercise regimen when working out alone is what’s important.
Factor 6: Results
Results are an extremely important part of why you have a personal trainer, and if you are not getting the results you want, then you need to speak to your trainer.
A successful personal training company will have past and current client success stories to share with you and if they don't you need to find a new coach that does.
