Exercise Physiology – Support Budget Types

Once your NDIS plan is approved, you need to understand different budgets, who can help you start using your plan, and how your plan is managed. This is a brief explanation of how our exercise physiology approved NDIS services can be used in relation to your budget. The NDIA commission are constantly making changes to how the NDIS works, and the below information is based on the current information as of July 2019. There are three types of support budgets that may be funded in NDIS plans: Core Supports Capacity Building Supports Capital Supports Your funding is based on what is ‘reasonable and necessary’ to achieve your goals in addition to the support provided by family friends and other community and government services. Exercise Physiology services currently can be funded with Capacity Building Supports. NDIS Funds for Exercise Physiology Moonee Valley Health and Fitness’s Accredited Exercise Physiologists are trained to prescribe exercise programs to people who will benefit from greater mobility, balance and overall health. These are usually gym based programs delivered in our onsite gym in Travancore, VIC 3032. Using your Capacity Support Budget. Capacity Building Supports help build your independence and skills to help you reach your long-term goals. Unlike your Core Supports budget, your Capacity Building Supports budget cannot be moved from one support category to another. Funding can only be used to purchase approved individual supports that fall within that Capacity Building category. The Capacity Building categories that Exercise Physiology currently fall under are Improved Health & Wellbeing and Improved Daily Living. Capacity Building and Exercise Physiology Services The capacity building support services that exercise physiology [...]

Men’s Health Week 2018

Men’s Health Week - June 11th – 17th Men’s Health Week is a week for communities across Australia to promote the benefits of a healthy body and healthy mind in men and boys – and Moonee Valley Health and Fitness is encouraging all of Melbourne to inspire the men in their lives to move more. “An active lifestyle is the most powerful way for a man to remain healthy, so that everything they have worked hard for can be enjoyed for longer. We know that regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to reduce and manage many chronic conditions and improve mental health, and that’s what makes it so vital for a healthy body and a healthy mind,” explains Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Daniel Berkelmans. If you’re needing a hand with maintaining an active lifestyle, speak with an Accredited Exercise Scientist or Accredited Exercise Physiologist on how to get started with an exercise plan. This year’s theme “HEALTHY BODY – HEALTHY MIND: KEEPING THE BALANCE” explores the different ways men and boys are managing to keep healthy, physically and emotionally, in a busy and sometimes challenging world. #MensHealthWeek We want to motivate the men in our lives to include more physical activity into their daily schedules. With family and work life becoming more demanding, and the perceived pressure from society of maintaining masculinity, exercise can drop low on the list of priorities. However, as per the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare statistics, only an alarming two in five men are getting enough exercise. The health status of males is generally poorer than that of females. More males have accidents, die at every life stage and suffer from lifestyle-related health conditions than [...]

Then when it goes off, I physically have to get up to turn it off. I also set three consecutive alarms so I don’t have an excuse! Diabetes Week 2017

Diabetes Week 2017 Diabetes Week is a great opportunity to raise awareness about all types of diabetes and how this condition affects Australians. This year, Diabetes Victoria and Exercise & Spots Science Australia (ESSA) have both launched digital awareness campaigns to coincide with National Diabetes Week 2017 (9-15 July). Diabetes Victoria - Our Invisible Condition Directed to all people affected by, or at risk of, diabetes. ESSA - Don’t Sugar Coat Diabetes Aims to raise awareness of risk factors leading to the development of diabetes. Diabetes Victoria - Our Invisible Condition Diabetes is an invisible condition that doesn’t discriminate. People with diabetes can affect all ages, genders and ethnicities. Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) - Don't Sugar Coat Diabetes Don't Sugar Coat Diabetes aims to educate the Australian public on how implementing exercise into their everyday life can reduce the risks of developing related chronic conditions, as well as make symptoms more manageable for those already diagnosed. One of the most effective ways to prevent and treat diabetes is through regular exercise. In general terms, exercise improves the body’s ability to regulate blood glucose. It is important for people to consult their health professional to learn more about exercising safely with diabetes and to find the dose that is right for them. Do You Know What Diabetes Is?
