Christmas Carols in Queens Park Come on down to the 2018 Carol's in Queen Park in December and enjoy the free entertainment that the Moonee Valley City Council has organised. Saturday, 8 December 2018 When: Saturday 8th December 2018 Where: Queens Park, Moonee Ponds Kid’s activities: Free children’s activities from 5pm Carols Concert: 7pm It's a wonderful time of year Christmas, so if you are in the Moonee Valley area and looking for something to do why not join us all with a free evening of carols, children’s activities and festive cheer in Queens Park. Pack a picnic, gather your family and friends and enjoy an outstanding line-up of local performers, schools and community groups including Moonee Valley Brass Inc and Moonee Valley Community Choir. Candles, food and refreshments will also be onsite for purchase. Mental Health Week 2016

World Mental Health Day is marked every year on the same date: 10th of October. The aim of Mental Health Week is to promote social and emotional well-being to the community, encouraging people to maximise their health potential, enhancing the coping capacity of communities, families, individuals and increasing mental health recovery. Mental Health Week 2016 will run from Sunday 9th to Saturday 15th October. Victoria Mental Health This years launch was held on Tue 11th October at the Deakin Edge Theatre at Federation Square. It has now been an annual event since 1984 and has more than 20 community sponsors that have signed up to collaborate to bring this event to life. The Mental Health Foundation of Australia (VIC) will be joined by MC George Donikian (Former news presenter for the Nine Network and Network Ten), along with Key Note Speaker, Jason Ball (LGBTIQ and Mental Health advocate & 2016 Greens Candidate for Higgins). The aim of Mental Health Week Mental Health Week aims to activate, educate and engage Victorians about mental health, through a week of interactive events across the state, including an official launch, community festivals, art exhibitions, music and seminars. Much of the effort of running Mental Health Week comes from dedicated volunteers committed to promoting mental wellbeing, furthering knowledge about mental health and eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness. Exercise Physiology and Diabetes

Everybody benefits from regular exercise. If you have diabetes, or are at risk of diabetes it plays an important role in keeping you health. In Victoria, there are currently 300,000 people living with diabetes and every day, around 70 Victorians develop the condition. Diabetes Victoria offers great support groups for people living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. As Exercise Physiologists we often get asked many questions about how physical activity can help diabetes management and to dispel myths associated with being active. Below we help explain the benefits that exercise has with diabetes management and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about how and why physical activity is beneficial. What is Diabetes? Diabetes is the name given to a group of conditions in which there is too much glucose (sugar) in the blood. Glucose is the body’s main source of fuel or energy. High blood glucose levels can affect many parts of the body but with the right advice, technology and medication diabetes can be managed well. The different types of diabetes There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. This recipe is so easy to prepare (takes about 10 minutes) and then all you need to do is let it bake for under an hour. Moonee Valley Festival at Queens Park, Moonee Ponds Come on down to the 2016 Moonee Valley Festival in Queen Park in February and enjoy the free entertainment that the Moonee Valley City Council has organised. When: Sunday 28th February 2016 Where: Queens Park, Moonee Ponds Event Time: 10.00am-5.00pm The annual Moonee Valley Festival will be on again in Queens Park for a free day of summer fun on Sunday, 28 February. The whole community is invited to be part of the excitement with market stalls, roving performers, live music, dance and entertainment, workshops and activities, the business expo, delectable food, and carnival rides. Our Moonee Valley Health and Fitness team will be there in the Health and Wellbeing Area and can't wait to see you all!
