Men’s Health Week 2018

Men’s Health Week - June 11th – 17th Men’s Health Week is a week for communities across Australia to promote the benefits of a healthy body and healthy mind in men and boys – and Moonee Valley Health and Fitness is encouraging all of Melbourne to inspire the men in their lives to move more. “An active lifestyle is the most powerful way for a man to remain healthy, so that everything they have worked hard for can be enjoyed for longer. We know that regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to reduce and manage many chronic conditions and improve mental health, and that’s what makes it so vital for a healthy body and a healthy mind,” explains Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Daniel Berkelmans. If you’re needing a hand with maintaining an active lifestyle, speak with an Accredited Exercise Scientist or Accredited Exercise Physiologist on how to get started with an exercise plan. This year’s theme “HEALTHY BODY – HEALTHY MIND: KEEPING THE BALANCE” explores the different ways men and boys are managing to keep healthy, physically and emotionally, in a busy and sometimes challenging world. #MensHealthWeek We want to motivate the men in our lives to include more physical activity into their daily schedules. With family and work life becoming more demanding, and the perceived pressure from society of maintaining masculinity, exercise can drop low on the list of priorities. However, as per the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare statistics, only an alarming two in five men are getting enough exercise. The health status of males is generally poorer than that of females. More males have accidents, die at every life stage and suffer from lifestyle-related health conditions than [...]

Another 5 star gym review – Kajsa

This gym was my happy place when I lived in Melbourne. The trainers are very professional and knowledgeable, and will help you achieve your goals. Or in my case - help find good goals and my way towards that goal. I trust the trainers completely, and would sincerely recommend MV Health and Fitness for anyone, regardless of their goals. Thank you for the kind words Kajsa. You are an absolute pleasure to have as part of our boot camps and all the coaches at MVFit love having you be part of our gym. Can our local personal trainer team help you?

Visit This Girl Can - Victoria to learn more about how to embrace physical activity in a way that suits you. Looking for some inspiration to get active? Get Moving Whether it’s a walk in the park, a gym session or group fitness class, a jog / run, or getting a few friends together for a game of netball, there are so many ways to get active. Here are a just few ideas to help you get started. Women supporting women This Girl Can asked their ambassadors to share their top tips for being active – let them inspire you! I keep my sports bag packed and in my car, so I’m always ready to exercise. I go with a buddy, so I feel accountable – I even imagine them waiting for me alone, in the cold – I don’t want to let them down! I put my alarm clock on the other side of the room. Then when it goes off, I physically have to get up to turn it off. I also set three consecutive alarms so I don’t have an excuse! When I’m doing the child-drop off first thing in the morning, I wear my exercise gear. And I make a promise to myself to exercise before I go home. I like to remind myself not [...]

R U OK? 2017

R U Ok? Suicide Prevention 2017 R U OK? Day is an annual day in September (today, 14/9) dedicated to remind people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference and even save lives. We have built a fantastic fitness community here at Moonee Valley Health and Fitness and we are proud to support R U OK? Day and promoting their cause. By encouraging meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing, R U OK? strives to create better connections among peers, helping to improve support networks for those who are struggling, and ultimately prevent suicide. How to start the conversation and ask R U OK? Often we don’t ask because we’re not sure how. These conversations can sometimes be difficult, so it’s important to learn some ways to approach the situation. The R U OK website (https://www.ruok.org.au/) provides detailed resources to guide you through the process, along with lots of great ideas for creating conversations at school and in the workplace. Exercise & Sport Science Australia (ESSA) - Mental Health Client focused exercise plan becomes crucial not just for the short-term benefits on mental health, but more importantly the long standing effect exercise has on overall mental health and wellness. Exercise, when provided suitably, and in a way that is specific and individual to the needs of the client is an excellent addition to other treatment for the ongoing journey towards good mental health. If you know of someone in your life who is wanting to commence exercise, but is suffering from some mental health challenges, or [...]
